WHAT IS AN INTIMACY COORDINATOR?
An Intimacy Coordinator (also known as an IC) is a trained industry professional who ensures the safe and consensual performance of scenes involving nudity, sexual content, and hyper-exposure in Film and Television.
Working closely with actors, directors, and production staff, they coordinate, choreograph, and rehearse these intimate scenes, ensuring that all parties involved feel respected and empowered throughout the filming process.
As trained artists with expertise in movement coaching, sexuality education, mental health first aid, and anti-sexual harassment training, Intimacy Coordinators are strengthening the industry by providing productions with considered, standardized support around the filming of simulated sexual content, nudity, and other hyper-exposed scenes.
In addition, ICs facilitate coordination between production departments to fulfill the director’s vision while mitigating financial, insurance, or market-related risks.
By prioritizing the well-being of all those involved, ICs contribute to a positive and collaborative creative environment in the entertainment industry.
