Sex Education: Kissing

Kissing plays a large role in spotlighting the emotional connection between characters. In this sex education series we will discuss basic terminology and some common misconceptions~

As always, consent must come first; simply asking "Can I kiss you?" is a great place to start. Don't lead with your tongue or your teeth! Pay close attention to your partners' body language; try kissing with different pressure or in different positions.

Can I get an STD from kissing?

Although kissing is considered to be low-risk when compared to intercourse and oral sex, it’s possible for kissing to transmit CMV (CMV is related to the viruses that cause chickenpox, herpes simplex and mononucleosis), herpes, and syphilis. CMV can be present in saliva, and herpes and syphilis can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, particularly at times when sores are present. But kissing is a very low risk activity. Kissing someone for the first time can feel intimidating, and many people are nervous about it. The truth is, the first time you kiss someone, it can be awkward — just about everyone experiences that at one point or another. So when it comes to kissing, being as relaxed as possible is important.
